The definition of 'career' is changing so fast in these times! Thanks for sharing your insights. 'Super' new look to the website, too.

As an executive recruiter, I believe your concept of the Renaissance Man is one which is still some time away. While I do think that we will get there someday due to the Gen Y interests, we're not there at this time. At present, employers still prefer the specialist versus the person that has tried so many fields because they see the Renaissance Man as someone who is not decisive and cannot be loyal to a particular career or company. Therefore, your analogy of one person who has been in research all his career versus the other one that has been an author, entrepreneur, speaker and community developer is an analogy that, at present, would put the specialist as the #1 candidate. Like I mentioned earlier, this is my experience with present day employers. This is something I believe might possibly change down the road with the education going towards more of a Renaissance Man type of education with the programs being put in place right now at the school systems. The Gen Y generations and those after them might be living in a different type of employer mind-set a few years from now. Thank you for this interesting journey you are taking us on. We all learning through your journey.
